Natural Cures For Enlarged Prostate

An enlarged prostate can be treated successfully with the following natural remedies for the prostate:

1. Saw Palmetto For Prostate

saw palmetto for the prostate

What Is The Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto is a small palm tree known as Serenoa repens. Its fruits were used for centuries by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Nowadays is used as a dietary supplement for urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland ( benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), as well as for chronic pelvic pain, migraine, hair loss, decreased sex drive, and other conditions.

Is Saw Palmetto Good For Prostate

Saw Palmetto has been shown to slow the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts the male hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) — a sex steroid and androgen hormone. DHT plays a role in male development, it also contributes to many common health issues in men, such as an enlarged prostate and loss of libido. Saw Palmetto inhibits the production of this hormone and helps to maintain a healthy prostate.

Saw Palmetto Benefits:

  • Treats Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia( BPH )
  • Retains Testosterone Levels
  • Supports Urological System
  • Protects From Prostate Cancer
  • …..

Does Saw Palmetto Help Enlarged Prostate

Several studies confirmed the traditional use of Saw Palmetto. One of the studies published in The Journal of American Medical Association revealed that Saw Palmetto is effective in improving urological symptoms and urine flow. Almost 3000 male participants were analyzed in this study. All of them experienced significant improvement compared to the group, which was taking a prescribed medication known as Proscar.

Saw Palmetto For Enlarged Prostate

Another study, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial investigated the effect of Saw Palmetto in men with lower urinary tract symptoms. 85 men were randomized to receive Saw Palmetto or placebo for 6 months. The results confirmed already known efficacy. They concluded: “Saw palmetto led to a statistically significant improvement in urinary symptoms in men with lower urinary tract symptoms compared with placebo.”

Saw Palmetto Dosage For Prostate

  • For the treatment of  BPH ( Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia )  the recommended dose is starting with 320 milligrams three times daily for four months, then dropping down to 320 milligrams once a day.
  • Early stages of BPH should be treated with 160 milligrams twice a day.
  • Drinking tea is not as effective as the supplement because fatty acids aren’t soluble in water. It’s recommended to buy a supplement that contains 85 percent to 95 percent fatty acids and sterols.

NOTE: Consult your doctor before taking any herbs, supplement, or any other natural remedy. Saw Palmetto may not be safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It might slow blood clotting so don’t combine it with blood clotting medications such as aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren,..) ibuprofen, naproxen (Naprosyn, ..), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin) and others.

2. Black Seed For Prostate

black seed and prostate

What Is Black Seed

Black seed or Nigella Sativa, also known as Black Cumin contains powerful anticancer, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and uricosuric activities, which all contribute to prostate and overall health.

Black Seed Oil For Prostate Cancer

It is one of the most effective remedies, capable of curing almost every disease. In folk medicine, it’s believed that Black cumin seed is a cure for all diseases except death! Black seed oil has been used for centuries to promote and regulate prostate health. Several studies confirmed its efficacy against many conditions, including prostate cancer.

What Is In Black Seed

Black seed contains more than 100 compounds. Some of the ingredients are thymoquinone, dithymquinone, thymohydroquinone, and thymol. Among others, it contains also fatty acids ( linoleic acid and oleic acid ), minerals ( calcium, iron, copper, potassium, phosphorous ), proteins, monosaccharides in form of glucose, carotene, rhamnose, xylose, and arabinose.

What Is In Black Seed Oil

Black seed oil is full of phytosterols that contribute to the production of natural hormones, which is why it is especially good for prostate health. One study showed that Thymoquinone killed aggressive prostate cancer cells in lab studies and may prove to be an adjunctive therapy that can treat aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Thymoquinone, found in black seed oil has been shown to kill pancreatic cancer cells, colon cancer, and has been examined for its potential in the treatment of breast cancer.

Black Seed And Prostate

A study looked at the effect of thymoquinone therapy for hormone-refractory prostate cancer. They found that “thymoquinone, a naturally occurring herbal product, may prove to be effective in treating hormone-sensitive as well as hormone-refractory prostate cancer.” Scientists revealed that Black seed compound thymoquinone “blocked angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo, prevented tumor angiogenesis in a xenograft human prostate cancer model in mouse, and inhibited human prostate tumor growth at low dosage with almost no chemotoxic side effects.”

Black Seed Dosage For Prostate

The maximum intake of oil should be limited to 3 teaspoons a day. It doesn’t work faster if you take a higher dosage, rather on the contrary it can cause side effects. Start with a smaller dosage, 1 teaspoon a day and after a week of regular consumption increase dosage to 2 teaspoons and again after a week increases it to 3 teaspoons a day, divided into 3 dosages! If any side effects occur, stop taking it!

Raw seeds powder should be limited to 7.5 teaspoons a day, which is equal to 3 teaspoons of cold-pressed black seed oil. Dosages over 25 grams daily are toxic, so don’t take higher dosages than recommended.

Black seed oil is a better choice, due to the economical factors and quantity. For instance…. 100ml has approximately 20 teaspoons of black seed oil, which are easily consumed in 6 days if 3 teaspoons per day are taken. If you compare to 7.5 teaspoons of raw seeds powder ( equal to 3 teaspoons of oil ) per day that is hard to consume, you would eat 45 teaspoons of hardly consumable powder in 6 days!

I take both forms, always individually! If I take oil, I do not take seeds and vice versa! I mix the seeds with kefir, so it is much easier to consume than if I took the dry black seed powder, either on a spoon or in a tablet form ( approximately 1060 capsules per pound of black seed powder or 30 capsules per day).

Consuming cold-pressed black seed oil is much more convenient than seeds, but it depends from person to person what is more appropriate to him. I like both of them,)

NOTE:  Consult your doctor before taking any herbs, supplement or any other natural remedy. Recommended dosage usually doesn’t cause any side effects, but it can be toxic if taken more than 25 grams in one day.

How To Use Pumpkin Seeds And Pumpkin Seed Oil For Prostate Health

Pumpkin seeds are a delicious and healthy snack. A handful ( about 1 ounce ) of seeds three times a week act as preventative for many diseases, especially BPH. Pumpkin seeds contain compounds known as phytosterols, which are responsible for shrinking the prostate. They also contain other compounds that may prevent the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). High levels of DHT are linked with an enlarged prostate.

Pumpkin seed oil is made from roasted pumpkin seeds. On average, it takes about 2.5 kg of seeds per liter of oil, which requires about 30 pumpkins. In the traditional process, the seeds are mechanically and thermally treated. First, the seeds are ground in the roll mill, then some water is added to the seeds, which prevents the seeds from burning. Then the seeds are roasted in a pan for about half an hour between 100 and 110 degrees Celsius ( 212-230°F ). This oil should not be cooked because heat destroys healthy nutrition and produces a bitter taste. The most common use of pumpkin seed oil is as a salad dressing. Another possible use is in the form of a capsule as a supplement.

There is no proper dosage of supplements for prostate health. Studies used up to 2000 mg per day in the form of a supplement. 1000 mg per day should be enough for preventative, although higher dosages could be taken. 1000 mg with each meal is recommended in larger therapeutic dosages. Consult with your doctor about the proper dosage for your condition.

Oil as a salad dressing is usually measured to approximately 3 spoons per day or as desired. If you are not a salad lover, you can also use the oil as an additive to enhance the flavor of foods, but note, that oil should not be heated. Another way is to take 1 tablespoon 3 times per day as a preventative against BPH and to maintain a healthy prostate.

Cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil: There is no seed treatment in the cold pressing process. Seeds are not ground, not heated or roasted, but oil is extracted from whole seeds. The oil keeps all the nutrients (vitamins and minerals) contained in the seed through the pressing process. The processing efficiency is considerably lower since at least six kilograms of pumpkin seeds are needed for a liter of cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil. Therefore this oil is better but is also more expensive and its taste is slightly different than roasted pumpkin seed oil. Because of its nutrition values, 3 teaspoons per day is more than enough for maintaining a healthy prostate.

I was born in a small European country in the Styrian area, where pumpkin seed oil is highly respected. It is interesting that our men suffer from enlarged prostate very rarely. Pumpkin oil is present in our kitchen every day. My father in law, who is a big fan of pumpkin oil, has no prostate problems and looks like a 50-year-old man at the age of 76. His prostate health is also attributed to the effects of pumpkin oil, which he uses daily as a salad dressing along with plenty of garlic.

5. Bee Pollen For Prostate Health

What Is Bee Pollen About

Bee Pollen is produced by adult bees and is a food for young bees. It is one of the most nutritious foods because it contains almost all the nutrients that people need. As many as 40 percents of pollen are proteins, as well as free amino acids, vitamins, including B-complex, and folic acid. Pollen is an integral food that contains many elements that are not contained in other foods of animal origin. Researchers found that 100 g of pollen contains so many amino acids as 500 g beef or 7 eggs and that 30 g of pollen is therefore fully sufficient to cover the daily need for essential proteins in an adult. About half of the protein contained in pollen is in the form of free amino acids, which the body consumes immediately.

What Is In Bee Pollen

Pollen also contains water and carbohydrates ( glucose, fructose, and lactose), the content of which varies between 35 and 40%. Fat is about 5% on average in pollen (over 20% in some species). These fats contain a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids that affect the level of cholesterol in the blood. In addition, pollen contains all the vitamins needed by the human body, in particular vitamins B, vitamins A, C, biotin and E, bioflavonoids, minerals and trace elements, as well as various other substances, such as enzymes, antibiotic substances, substances that promote growth and rutin, which strengthens the walls of the tiny blood vessels, capillaries.

One bee must work for one teaspoon of pollen for a month, eight hours a day. Each processed pollen grains contain more than two million grains of flower pollen and one teaspoon of pollen contains more than 2.5 billion grains of flower pollen.

What Is Bee Pollen Good For

Pollen can be used for medical purposes for the treatment of various problems, including prostate problems, cough problems and can help to improve certain nutritional imbalances in the body.

6. Pygeum For Prostate Is One Of The Best Supplements For Prostate Health

pygeum for prostate health

What Is Pygeum

Pygeum or African plum extract from bark ( Prunus africanum also Pygeum africanum ) has been used for centuries in traditional African medicine for urinary problems. It is effective against BPH symptoms, which include significant improvement in nocturia ( increased urination at night) and urine flow. Scientists believe that Pygeum helps to maintain prostate health in three ways:

  • It reduces the inflammation of the prostate
  • It suppresses prostate growth factors
  • It reduces prolactin levels and decreases the uptake of testosterone

What Is In Pygeum

The most important active compounds of Pygeum are fatty acids and fat-soluble sterols called phytosterols. Phytosterols may inhibit the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) for which has been proven that this sex steroid and androgen hormone can increase the risk of BPH and prostate cancer.

Pygeum For Prostate

Pygeum is a Tier 2 supplement for prostatitis, which means that there are significant clinical studies on using Pygeum for prostatitis or other related prostate conditions. “It inhibits various growth factors, has anti-inflammatory and antiedematous as well as phytoestrogenic effects, and reduces luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone, and prolactin. It has been shown to reduce detrusor contractility and alter bladder function”

pygeum for prostate health

What Is Pygeum For

A study investigated the efficacy and safety of Pygeum africanum extract known as Tadenan in men with mild to moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia ( BPH ). Patients were taking 50 mg of Pygeum extract twice a day for two months. After two months of Pygeum treatment patients experienced significant improvements. International Prostate Symptom Score ( IPSS ) was improved by 40 % and quality of life by 31%. Nocturia ( nighttime frequency ) was reduced by 32%. These improvements also existed after one month, without taking Pygeum. Scientists concluded: “Under conditions of daily practice, Pygeum africanum extract induces a significant improvement in IPSS and uroflowmetry parameter.”

Pygeum For BPH

Another study looked at the effect of Pygeum extract in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia ( BPH ). Patients entered a 2-month randomized, parallel-group, double-blind, comparative phase (group A, 50 mg twice daily; group B, 100 mg once daily), followed by a 10-month, open phase (100 mg once daily). Both groups experienced similar efficacy.  IPSS was improved in group A by 38%, while in B by 35%. Quality of life improved by 28% in both groups. They concluded: “P. africanum extract at 50 mg twice daily and 100 mg once daily proved equally effective and safe at 2 months. Further improvements in efficacy with a satisfactory safety profile were documented after 12 months.”

Pygeum For Prostatitis

A study evaluated the efficacy of an extract of Pygeum Africanum (Tadenan) in patients suffering from prostatic hypertrophy or chronic prostatitis. 18 patients received a double of standard dosage, 200 mg per day for 2 months. Results showed that ” Pygeum Africanum extract administration improved all the urinary parameters. Also, an improvement of sexual behavior has been obtained.”

Pygeum Dosage For Prostate

The most common daily dose of Pygeum is 50- 200 mg a day of a standardized extract ( bark; 13% total sterols) taken up to 3 times per day.

NOTE: Pygeum doesn’t interact with other medications, it’s even used to enhance the effectiveness of drugs and other supplements. The recommended dosage is usually well-tolerated, but it can cause undesired side effects, such as loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and nausea. Consult with your doctor about the proper dosage!

7. Natural Remedy For  Enlarged Prostate: Quercetin For Prostate

quercetin for prostate

What Is Quercetin About

Quercetin is a bioflavonoid commonly found in foods such as red grapes, tea, onions, apples, wine, leafy greens, and various berries.  It has proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects by inhibiting the production and release of histamine and other inflammatory factors. Numerous studies confirmed that the healing properties of quercetin may help restore prostate health.

Results showed that patients who were assigned to take lycopene experienced a significantly greater effect than a placebo group. They concluded: “Lycopene inhibited progression of BPH.”

Lycopene For Prostate Cancer

Based on scientific evidence, Lycopene has been found to help prevent and fight prostate cancer. A scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Edward Giovannucci, revealed that men who had 10 or more servings a week of tomato-based food had a 45 percent reduction in the rate of prostate cancer compared with those who ate less than 4 servings. Those who ate 4- 7 servings had a 20 percent reduction in cancer. It is believed that cooked tomato products seemed to be more effective than juice or raw tomatoes.

Several other studies confirmed the protective effects of lycopene for prostate cancer. Regular intake of tomato-based food “is associated with about a 30–40% decrease in risk of prostate cancer, especially advanced prostate cancer.”  In most studies, 30mg/day of lycopene was used. Results showed that lycopene slowed the growth of prostate cancer and decreased tumor size.

Lycopene Dosage For Prostate

The American Cancer Society recommends at least 5 servings of lycopene-rich food a day, such as deeply colored fruits and vegetables, which are also full of other nutrition.

Tomato-based foods have the highest amount of lycopene.
